A bright, saturated yellow tone — the zinc chromate primer used on metal surfaces of US aircraft during the Second World War, visible in wheel wells, landing gear legs, bomb bays, flap interiors, and wherever bare or primed metal was visible. RC930 Zinc Chromate Yellow is the anti-corrosion primer applied to bare metal surfaces of US aircraft during WWII. Applied prior to finish coats, it remains visible in unpainted areas such as wheel bays, retraction mechanisms, bomb bay interiors, wing fold joints, and other structural cavities. It is therefore correct as a WWII US aircraft zinc chromate primer colour visible in wheel wells, gear legs, bomb bay interiors, and structural metal areas across the full range of USAAF, USN, and USMC production aircraft including the P-47 Thunderbolt, P-51 Mustang, P-38 Lightning, B-17 Flying Fortress, B-24 Liberator, F4U Corsair, F6F Hellcat, TBF/TBM Avenger, SBD Dauntless, and all associated types where exposed metal was standard.
