A medium, slightly cool blue-grey tone corresponding to the US Navy M-485 Blue Grey — the upper surface colour in the Blue Grey/Light Grey two-tone scheme that was standard for USN and USMC carrier-based and shore-based aircraft from late 1941 through to January 1943. Part of the AK Interactive Real Colors Military range in the new 17ml plastic dropper bottle, RC923 is included in AK's WWII US Navy & USMC Aircraft Colors set and pairs with RC891 Insignia White (as the lower surface Light Grey approximation) to complete the scheme.

RC923 M-485 Blue Grey was applied to the upper surfaces of USN and USMC carrier-based aircraft from mid-October 1941, following the order to transition from the earlier overall Light Grey scheme. In February 1942 the scheme was extended to all USN shore-based aircraft. The scheme remained in force until January 1943, when it was superseded by the tri-colour Sea Blue/Intermediate Blue/Insignia White scheme for carrier-based aircraft. Note that wing fold undersurfaces were also painted Blue Grey rather than Light Grey under this scheme. It is therefore correct for USN and USMC carrier-based and shore-based aircraft in the Blue Grey/Light Grey scheme, mid-October 1941–January 1943, including the F4F-3/4 Wildcat, SBD-3/4 Dauntless, TBF-1 Avenger, F4U-1 Corsair (early production), SB2C-1 Helldiver, F6F-3 Hellcat (early production), PBY Catalina, OS2U Kingfisher, and associated USN types of the period.
