A medium, neutral dark grey tone corresponding to Federal Standard 36118 — a defining colour in the USAF Hill Grey schemes of the late 1970s through the 1990s, and one of the Tactical Paint Scheme colours used by US Navy and Marine Corps aviation from the 1980s to the present. RC913 Medium Gunship Grey FS 36118 is one of the three colours in the Hill Grey scheme applied to USAF F-16s from the late 1970s until the early 1990s — a scheme also carried by early F-16s delivered to several NATO air forces. It is also one of the two colours in the two-tone Hill Grey scheme applied to USAF F-4C/D/E/G Phantom IIs from the late 1970s until their retirement, and to USAF F-16s from the early 1990s onward. It additionally appears in USN and USMC Tactical Paint Schemes from the 1980s to the present. It is therefore correct for USAF three-colour Hill Grey scheme late 1970s–early 1990s on the F-16A/B Fighting Falcon; same scheme on NATO F-16 operators (with Denmark and Norway being notable exceptions); USAF two-colour Hill Grey scheme late 1970s–retirement on the F-4C/D/E/G Phantom II and F-16A/B/C/D from the early 1990s onward; and USN and USMC Tactical Paint Schemes 1980s–present including the F-14A/B/D Tomcat, F/A-18A–F Hornet and Super Hornet, EA-18G Growler, and associated carrier air wing types.
