Description
AKIRC897 - AK Interactive Real Colors Desert Sand FS 30279 17 ml.
A light, warm sandy tone corresponding to Desert Sand No.13 (FS 30279) — a colour with a remarkably broad span of applications across three distinct eras of US and Allied military history: WWII US Army vehicle and USAAF aircraft camouflage, Gulf War-era USMC helicopter desert schemes, and RAF Operation Granby aircraft. Part of the AK Interactive Real Colors Military range in the new 17ml plastic dropper bottle, RC897 is included in AK's WWII US Army & USMC Camouflage Colors Set and covers subjects from the North African campaign through to the 1990–91 Gulf War.
RC897 Desert Sand FS 30279 is a good match to the Sand 49 colour used for painting the upper surfaces of USAAF aircraft operating in the Mediterranean Theatre of Operations in 1942–1943. It is also a good match to one of the colours available for painting disruptive camouflage on US Army vehicles during World War II, one of the colours possibly used in ad-hoc desert schemes applied to some USMC helicopters during the 1990–91 Gulf War, and a fair match to the Desert Pink colour used for temporary desert camouflage on RAF aircraft participating in Operation Granby, including the Tornado GR.1/GR.1A, Jaguar GR.1, and Buccaneer S.2B. AK includes RC897 as No.13 Desert Sand in their WWII US Army & USMC Camouflage Colors Set, specifically for North African campaign vehicles. It is therefore correct for USAAF aircraft upper surface colour in the MTO 1942–43 including the P-40, P-38, B-17, B-24, B-25, A-20, and associated types in sand/olive drab or sand/dark earth schemes; WWII US Army North African vehicle disruptive camouflage; Gulf War 1990–91 USMC helicopter ad-hoc desert schemes; and RAF Operation Granby aircraft including Tornado GR.1, Jaguar GR.1, and Buccaneer S.2B in temporary Pink/Sand desert schemes.
