Description
AKIRC891 - AK Interactive Real Colors Insignia White FS 17875 17 ml.
A warm, slightly off-white corresponding to Insignia White (FS 17875) — one of the most widely used colours in US military aviation, serving simultaneously as the white element of the star-and-bars national insignia on both USAF and US Navy/USMC aircraft, as the lower surface colour of US Navy carrier-based aircraft from the mid-1950s, and as the standard interior colour for US Navy, USMC, and USAF aircraft from the 1950s through to the 1980s. Part of the AK Interactive Real Colors Military range in the new 17ml plastic dropper bottle, RC891 is essential for virtually every US military aircraft subject across all eras.
Insignia White FS 17875 is the specified white for the five-pointed star and horizontal bars of the US military aircraft national insignia, as defined in Federal Standard 595 and Technical Order 1-1-4 for USAF aircraft exterior finishes and markings. FS 17875 Insignia White was also widely used to paint the interiors, wheel wells, and bomb bays of US Navy and USMC aircraft from the mid-1950s, replacing the previously used ANA 611 Interior Green. USAF aircraft switched to FS 17875 Insignia White for aircraft interiors a few years later in the 1960s. Beginning in 1985, US aircraft began receiving interiors painted in the newer FS 17925 Untinted White, which gradually displaced FS 17875. Insignia White was also the undersurface colour of US Navy carrier-based aircraft in the Light Gull Grey over Insignia White two-tone scheme used from 1955 until the early 1980s.
