Description
AKIRC885 - AK Interactive Real Colors CARC Tan 686A FS 33446 17 ml.
A sandy tan corresponding to CARC Tan 686A (FS 33446) — the Chemical Agent Resistant Coating desert colour used on US Army combat vehicles from Operation Desert Shield onward, and the colour most closely associated with the M1 Abrams and M2 Bradley of the 1991 Gulf War. Part of the AK Interactive Real Colors Military range in the new 17ml plastic dropper bottle, RC885 is the essential colour for all US Army and USMC desert-environment vehicle subjects from 1990 to the present day.
CARC Tan 686A FS 33446 was selected as the main base colour for US combat vehicles during the buildup to the 1991 Gulf War (Operation Desert Storm). The majority of combat vehicles that participated in Operation Desert Storm were painted in this colour, which immediately became associated with some of the US Army's most celebrated AFVs from that war, including the M1 Abrams and M2/M3 Bradley. It has remained the main US Army desert colour to this day. In 1990, the majority of Army vehicles arriving in the Gulf were wearing their NATO three-colour camouflage patterns and stood out against the desert sand — priority was given to apply CARC Tan to combat vehicles including the M1 tank, Bradley fighting vehicle, engineer breaching equipment, and command and control vehicles. CARC Tan FS 33446 has a strong fading tendency, which is important to note when modelling vehicles that have seen extended desert service. It is the correct overall colour for all US Army and USMC desert-environment subjects from 1990 onward, covering the M1A1/M1A2 Abrams, M2/M3 Bradley, M109A6 Paladin, M270 MLRS, M113, HMMWV, M88 ARV, M60A3 (Gulf War era), LAV-25, and all associated wheeled and soft-skin transport across Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and subsequent deployments.
