Description

AKIRC883 - AK Interactive Real Colors No.9/No.22 Olive Drab (WWII) 17 ml.

A dark, flat yellow-olive corresponding to US Army Olive Drab — known variously as Colour No.22 (Quartermaster specification), Colour No.9 (Corps of Engineers designation), and later AN 319 — the standard colour of all United States Army and Marine Corps ground vehicles throughout the Second World War. Part of the AK Interactive Real Colors Military range in the new 17ml plastic dropper bottle, RC883 is the single most broadly applicable US WWII vehicle colour, covering virtually the entire span of American and Allied Lend-Lease subjects from 1940 to 1945.

Colour No.22 (Quartermaster) and Colour No.9 (Corps of Engineers) were the same colour — the standard Lusterless Olive Drab used on all US Army vehicles from October 1940 onward. Strictly enforced paint standards from late 1942 reduced earlier batch-to-batch variation. Olive drab was officially known as Army/Navy (AN) No.319 from April 1943, which was the same colour as the earlier QM Colour No.22. The postwar equivalent became Federal Standard FS34087. Olive Drab is a darkened yellow that depending on lighting and fading can resemble a dark olive green or brown — one of the most contested colours in scale modelling due to the wide range of interpretations by paint manufacturers and the absence of an exact modern FS equivalent. It is the correct overall colour for all US Army and USMC vehicle subjects from 1940 to 1945 including the M4 Sherman (all variants), M3 Lee/Grant, M5 Stuart, M10/M36 tank destroyers, M3/M5 halftracks, M8 Greyhound, M20 armoured car, M7 Priest, M3 GMC, M4 mortar carrier, Jeep (Willys MB/Ford GPW), Dodge WC series, GMC CCKW, M1 57mm gun, M1A1 155mm howitzer, and all associated US Army and Lend-Lease soft-skin transport across all WWII theatres of operation.
