Description

AKIRC881 - AK Interactive Real Colors IDF Sand Grey 1970S-1980S 17 ml.

A darker, greyer tan corresponding to the IDF Sand Grey — the transitional vehicle colour adopted by Israeli Defence Forces units repositioned to the northern frontiers following the 1973 Yom Kippur War, remaining in use through to the introduction of IDF Modern Grey in 1981. Part of the AK Interactive Real Colors Military range in the new 17ml plastic dropper bottle, RC881 is the correct colour for post-Yom Kippur IDF armour subjects through the Lebanese conflicts of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

After the 1973 Yom Kippur War, more IDF land forces were positioned in the northern frontiers and their vehicles received a darker tone — Sand Grey — which was more suitable for blending with the greyish terrain of the north of Israel. IDF Modern Grey was introduced in May 1981. IDF Early Sand Yellow remained in use in the south and the Sinai Peninsula after 1973, while Sand Grey was applied to vehicles deployed on the northern frontiers — making the two colours contemporaneous during the mid-to-late 1970s depending on operational theatre. RC881 is the correct colour for IDF AFV subjects from 1973 through to 1981, particularly for vehicles deployed on the northern border with Lebanon and Syria, including the Centurion Sho't Kal (Alef/Bet/Gimel), M48A3/M48A5 Patton, M60A1/A3, M113, Zelda (M113 with Toga armour), M109 Paladin, Raam, and all associated IDF wheeled transport of the post-Yom Kippur War era, the 1978 Operation Litani, and the early stages of the 1982 First Lebanon War.

  • IDF Sand Grey — vehicle colour adopted post-Yom Kippur War (1973) for northern frontier units; replaced by Modern Grey in May 1981
  • Darker and greyer than RC880 Early Sand Yellow; specifically suited to the terrain of northern Israel and Lebanon
  • Covers post-1973 IDF AFVs: Centurion Sho't Kal, M48A5, M60A1/A3, M113/Zelda, M109, and associated transport
  • Correct for Operation Litani (1978) and early 1982 First Lebanon War subjects
  • Used concurrently with RC880 Early Sand Yellow — southern/Sinai units retained the earlier shade through this period
  • Lacquer-based, airbrush-optimized — smooth, opaque coverage
  • Compatible with AK RC701 / RC702 High Compatibility Thinner, Tamiya Lacquer Thinner, Mr. Color Thinner, and Mr. Color Leveling Thinner
  • New 17ml plastic dropper bottle — 70% more volume than the original 10ml glass bottle
  • Part of the 180-colour AK Interactive Real Colors lacquer range
