Description
AKIRC872 - AK Interactive Real Colors British Light Mud 17 ml.
A dirty sandy grey — described by veterans as "light grey" or "dirty grey-beige" — corresponding to the British Army's Light Mud (SCC5), the standard base coat colour for British and Commonwealth vehicles deployed in Tunisia, Sicily, and Italy from spring 1943. Part of the AK Interactive Real Colors Military range in the new 17ml plastic dropper bottle, RC872 is the essential base colour for the Mediterranean theatre from the final stages of the North Africa campaign through to the Italian campaign.
From April 1943, G.O.1650 was cancelled and new colour orders introduced Light Mud as the standard basic vehicle colour for Tunisia, Sicily, and Italy, used with Black in bold standardised disruptive patterns. Light Mud began appearing as early as March 1943 in Tunisia. Lend-Lease vehicles used Light Mud over US Olive Drab as an alternative base. Light Mud was used in Tunisia and Sicily and Italy from 1943 to 1944 as the basic colour in disruptive patterns, and also on its own on base, training, and non-operational vehicles. It is the correct base coat for British and Commonwealth subjects from the final Tunisia campaign through the Sicily landings (Operation Husky, July 1943) and the Italian campaign, covering the Churchill, M4 Sherman, Cromwell, Valentine, M3 Stuart, Universal Carrier, and all associated transport of 1st and 8th Army formations. These colours were also used by Canadian, Australian, New Zealand and other Commonwealth armies during the same period.
