Description

AKIRC869 - AK Interactive Real Colors Portland Stone No.64 (BS381) 17 ml.

A slightly deeper, more khaki-toned stone corresponding to BSC No.64 Portland Stone — the second of the two base coat colours specified for the British Caunter camouflage scheme, used on British and Commonwealth AFVs in the Middle East and North Africa from July 1940 until October 1941, and subsequently as a single overall vehicle colour through 1942. Part of the AK Interactive Real Colors Military range in the new 17ml plastic dropper bottle, RC869 is closely related to RC868 Light Stone No.61 but with a slightly cooler, more muted tone, and is interchangeable with it as the Caunter base coat according to the period general orders.

The Caunter Scheme was composed of BSC No.28 Silver Grey, BSC No.34 Slate, and either BSC No.61 Light Stone or BSC No.64 Portland Stone, applied to vehicles of the British Army in North Africa and the Middle East from July 1940 until late 1941. Period general orders specified Light Stone No.61 or Portland Stone No.64 at various times as the Caunter base coat, with the two colours used interchangeably depending on local supply. When the Caunter pattern was formally cancelled in December 1941, it was replaced by a single overall colour of Light Stone No.61 or Portland Stone No.64, and vehicles already in the scheme remained in use into 1942 without requiring repainting. It covers the same wide range of Caunter-scheme subjects as RC868, including the A.9, A.10, and A.13 Cruisers, Matilda II, M3 Stuart, Valentine, Crusader, Vickers Light Tanks, and associated Commonwealth wheeled transport and armoured cars throughout the Western Desert campaign from 1940 to 1942.

  • BSC No.64 Portland Stone — the second of the two Caunter Scheme base coat colours (July 1940 to December 1941)
