Description

AKIRC865 - AK Interactive Real Colors Braun-Brown RAL 8020 17 ml.

A warm pinkish-tan brown corresponding to RAL 8020 Braun — the base colour of the second official Afrikakorps camouflage scheme, used on all German vehicles in North Africa and Crete from March 1942 until the introduction of Dunkelgelb in February 1943. Noticeably lighter and more pinkish than the earlier RAL 8000 Gelbbraun (RC861), it is often described as a desert pink tone. Part of the AK Interactive Real Colors Military range in the new 17ml plastic dropper bottle, RC865 is the essential base coat colour for late Afrikakorps subjects from El Alamein through to the fall of Tunisia.

RAL 8020 was used for the second tropical scheme (Tropen 2) from March 1942 until February 1943, covering two thirds of the vehicle's surface with RAL 7027 Sandgrau as the remaining one third disruptive pattern. Photographic and documentary evidence confirms that vehicles in tropical colours also found use on the Eastern Front. The new base colour was noticeably lighter than its RAL 8000 predecessor and closer to a desert pink. The combination with RAL 7027 displayed much higher contrast than the earlier RAL 8000/7008 scheme, although it remained common for many vehicles to be left in just the RAL 8020 base. It is the correct base coat for all German AFV and wheeled vehicle subjects of the late North Africa campaign including the Panzer III Ausf. J/L/M/N, Panzer IV Ausf. F2/G/H, Tiger I Tunisia, Sd.Kfz. 251, Kübelwagen, Opel Blitz, and Marder III, as well as all vehicles of the Crete garrison from mid-1942 onward. The Afrika 2 scheme predominated right through to the Axis surrender on 13 May 1943, and limited use was also documented in the subsequent Sicily campaign.
