Description

AKIRC864 - AK Interactive Real Colors Rotbraun-Red Brown RAL 8017 17 ml.

A very dark chocolate brown corresponding to RAL 8017 Rotbraun — the standard disruptive camouflage colour of all German AFVs from the spring of 1943 until the end of the war, and one of the three colours of the definitive mid-to-late war German tri-colour scheme. Known postwar as Schokoladenbraun (Chocolate Brown), it is the colour that forms the dark contrast to Dunkelgelb and Olivgrün across the widest range of German WWII modelling subjects. Part of the AK Interactive Real Colors Military range in the new 17ml plastic dropper bottle, RC864 is essential for any German vehicle subject from 1943 onward.

RAL 8017 Rotbraun was introduced on 18 February 1943 as a disruptive camouflage colour for German AFVs alongside Dunkelgelb nach Muster and Olivgrün. It remained in use across all subsequent camouflage schemes through to the end of the war, also being applied in the Hinterhalt-Tarnung ambush camouflage used on German vehicles from August 1944, and in the January 1945 scheme where RAL 6003 Olivgrün replaced Dunkelgelb as the factory base coat. RAL 8017 was a dark chocolate brown — the colour it was rebranded as in the postwar RAL palette. When over-thinned in paste form, it lightened to a brick red, resulting in considerable variation in appearance across field-applied vehicles. It covers all German AFV subjects from spring 1943 to May 1945 as a disruptive camouflage colour including the Panzer IV, Panther, Tiger I and II, StuG III and IV, Jagdpanther, Jagdpanzer IV, Hetzer, Nashorn, Hummel, and all associated wheeled and soft-skin transport of the mid-to-late war period. In seasonal application, olive green patches dominated in summer while reddish brown was used more extensively in autumn.
