Description
AKIRC862 - AK Interactive Real Colors Rot (Rotbraun)-Red Brown RAL 8012 17 ml.
A dark red-brown corresponding to RAL 8012 Rotbraun — the primary anti-corrosion red oxide primer used on German military vehicles throughout the Second World War, and one of the four essential colours for German AFV interior modelling. Part of the AK Interactive Real Colors Military range in the new 17ml plastic dropper bottle, RC862 has two distinct and important applications: as the factory-applied structural primer visible on interior surfaces and mechanical components, and as a late-war exterior base coat on vehicles that reached the front without their camouflage topcoat applied.
RAL 8012 Red Brown was the primary red oxide primer coat colour for German vehicles during World War II. At the end of WWII, due to the lack of camouflage paint stocks, some components coated with RAL 8012 Red Brown primer could remain unpainted — including large parts such as tank turrets. As a primer colour it appears throughout the interiors of all major German AFVs on running gear components, suspension arms, drive sprockets, wheels, tow hooks, tools, and structural brackets where the topcoat was not applied or had worn away through use. From mid-September 1944, RAL 8012 was specified as a base coat with RAL 7028 and RAL 6003 applied as disruptive camouflage directly over the primer surface — the so-called Sparanstrich economical coating scheme — saving approximately two thirds of the Dunkelgelb paint that would otherwise have been used. Subjects include Panther G late, Tiger II, Jagdpanther late, Jagdtiger, and Hetzer produced in the closing months of the war.
