Description
AKIRC858 - AK Interactive Real Colors Dunkelgelb Nach Muster-Dark Yellow acc. to Sample 17 ml
A mustard yellow corresponding to Dunkelgelb Nach Muster — "Dark Yellow according to sample" — the very first version of Dunkelgelb introduced in February 1943, brighter and more saturated than the later RAL 7028 shade, and the colour used on German vehicles during the pivotal Battle of Kursk. Part of the AK Interactive Real Colors Military range in the new 17ml plastic dropper bottle, RC858 represents a historically distinct and short-lived but critically important shade that preceded the formal RAL 7028 designation.
Dunkelgelb Nach Muster was introduced on 18 February 1943 as an entirely new primary colour for German vehicles to replace RAL 7021 Dunkelgrau. It was never part of the RAL standard and has no RAL code. This scheme was only used for newly produced vehicles between February and April 1943, so Dunkelgelb Nach Muster was never used for field repairs and repaints. It was replaced by RAL 7028 in April 1943. Unlike later variants there is little disagreement over how this colour looked: a mustard yellow which is probably closest to the stereotypical interpretation of Dunkelgelb in media such as films and video games. Despite being a transitory colour, it was the version of Dunkelgelb used during the Battle of Kursk. It is the correct base colour for all German AFVs produced between February and mid-1943 including early Panther Ausf. D, Tiger I mid-production, Panzer IV Ausf. G, StuG III Ausf. G early, Nashorn, and Hummel vehicles entering service in this period. The accompanying camouflage colours at introduction were RAL 8017 Rotbraun and RLM 62 Grün — soon replaced by RAL 6003 Olivgrün from April 1943.
