Description

AKIRC856 - AK Interactive Real Colors Dunkelgrau-Dark Grey RAL 7021 17 ml.

A very dark grey corresponding to RAL 7021 Dunkelgrau — the definitive colour of the German Wehrmacht from 1937 to 1943 and the most important single colour in German WWII AFV modelling. Popularly known as "Panzergrau," it is the base colour synonymous with the Blitzkrieg era and the early Eastern Front. Part of the AK Interactive Real Colors Military range in the new 17ml plastic dropper bottle, RC856 is essential for any German early-to-mid-war subject.

RAL 7021 Dunkelgrau was introduced in 1937 to supersede Reichswehr Feldgrau for German AFV camouflage, used in the two-colour scheme with RAL 7017 Dunkelbraun from 1937 to 1940, then as a single overall base coat from July 1940 until replaced by RAL 7028 Dunkelgelb in February 1943. As the overall base coat it covers all German AFV and wheeled vehicle subjects from the Polish Campaign (September 1939) through the early Eastern Front and North Africa, including the Panzer I, Panzer II, Panzer III, Panzer IV, Panzer 38(t), Tiger I early production, StuG III early marks, Sd.Kfz. 221/222/231/232/251/250, Kübelwagen, Schwimmwagen, Opel Blitz, and all Wehrmacht soft-skin transport through to late 1942 and early 1943. Vehicles already in the field with Dunkelgrau were not to be repainted when Dunkelgelb was introduced — instead, camouflage paste was applied over the existing grey base, resulting in Panzergrau vehicles with Dunkelgelb patches being documented as late as the Battle of Kursk in July 1943. Luftwaffe ground vehicles were also officially painted in RAL 7021 from 1938 to 1943.
