Description

AKIRC855 - AK Interactive Real Colors Dunkelbraun-Dark Brown RAL 7017 17 ml.

A very dark brown-grey corresponding to RAL 7017 Dunkelbraun — the disruptive camouflage colour of the early German Wehrmacht, used in the two-tone scheme that defined all German Army vehicles from 1937 to 1940. Part of the AK Interactive Real Colors Civil range in the new 17ml plastic dropper bottle, RC855 is an essential colour for any modeller working on early-war German AFV subjects.

RAL 7017 was used for painting vehicles and equipment of the German Army from July 1937 until July 1940 as a complementary camouflage colour to RAL 7021 Dunkelgrau, covering one third of the vehicle's surface in irregular patches with soft edges. On 12 July 1937, Inspectorate 2 ordered that all Army equipment was to be painted in dark grey (Dunkelgrau) and dark brown (Dunkelbraun), with the colours transitioning gradually rather than meeting in sharp edges. This scheme applies to all German AFV and wheeled vehicle subjects of the period including the Panzer I, Panzer II, Panzer III, Panzer 38(t), Sd.Kfz. 221/222/223/231/232, Sd.Kfz. 251, Kübelwagen, and Opel Blitz from September 1939 (Polish Campaign) through to the fall of France in mid-1940. RAL 7017 is a very dark brown with nearly identical lightness to RAL 7021, making the two colours virtually indistinguishable in black and white photographs — only identifiable in the handful of colour photographs from the early war years.
